Carolina Consortium SpringerNature Journal Deal - Open Access Components
Overview: The Carolina Consortium is pleased to announce a new read and publish deal that will provide "read" access to 2286 Springer, 34 (Nature) Academic, 47 Palgrave, and 21 ADIS journals, plus the OA publication of all or nearly all of our expected SpringerNature hybrid article output. More than forty consortium schools moved to the R&P version of this deal at the beginning of the 2024 subscription year.
Details: Corresponding authors whose articles are accepted in hybrid SpringerNature journals will be given the option of making their article Open Access (freely and openly available) at no cost. The participating Carolina Consortium institutions share a large pool of OA article entitlements that should cover most or all of our expected article output during a given year. The pool will be utilized on a first-come, first-serve basis. The consortium will monitor usage patterns to ensure that all participating institutions have an equal opportunity to publish their faculty authored works as Open Access. Note: Although CC members' Nature subscriptions are subject to the same favorable consortium inflation caps as the other SpringerNature imprints, our APC credits can not be used to publish in Nature-branded journals.
We will share an APC pool of
- 2024 - 536 APC credits
- 2025 - 551 APC credits
- 2026 - 568 APC credits
It is possible that we could run out of APC credits towards the end of a calendar year. If that happens, corresponding faculty will see a different message when their article is submitted. Unused article entitlements do not carry over from one year to the next. During this three year deal (1/2024-12/2026), the entitlements will be replenished at the start of each year.
