Electronic Resource Access
Access to the University Libraries' licensed electronic resources and databases is only available to NonUNCG patrons when using library-owned computers within Jackson Library and Harold Schiffman Music Library. For more information see our Database Access Policy.
Access to many online resources may be provided to NC residents by the State Library of North Carolina and other public libraries in NC via NC LIVE. North Carolina residents can sign up for a free NC LIVE 10-day pass to access electronic resources offered through this program. After 10 days, they will be directed to sign up for permanent access through a public library card.
Identification Requirements
- All applicants/borrowers must present valid photo ID at the time of registration/borrowing. Accepted forms include valid driver’s licenses, state ID cards, military IDs, passports, and IDs from schools at which the applicant is currently enrolled or employed.
- IDs presented with unrecognizable photos require additional photo ID.
- IDs are not transferrable.
- Public and private school students who do not have photo IDs must have a teacher, parent or guardian with photo ID present.
- Additional requirements for each type of borrower may be included below under Who Can Register to Borrow.
Who Can Borrow
Retired UNCG Faculty and Staff Members
Faculty and staff members who retired from state service while working at UNCG may continue to borrow and receive the same loan periods and renewals as current employees. No registration is required; just visit the library with photo ID in hand.
For the borrower account types listed below
All borrower account types listed below provide privileges for borrowing print materials from the Jackson and Harold Schiffman Music Libraries. They do not include off site access to electronic resources. Please see our Electronic Resource Access policy for more information. Other than the Community Borrower Program, they require no registration fee. Please review the account types for no fee solutions before considering the Community Borrower Program. We suggest also that you review the Loan Periods & Limits chart below to determine what the each type is eligible to borrow and for how long.
To apply for a print borrowing account, fill out the online Patron Registration Form. Your request will be reviewed, and you will receive an email (from checkout@uncg.edu) with instructions and information. For the Community Borrower Program, fee payment, as described below, is also required.
Alumni
Alumni of UNCG may register via the Community Borrower Program ... see information below.
Community Borrower Program
Community members aged 18 or older may borrow upon payment of a $35 annual fee that supports the Libraries’ collections. To compensate for the time during the Jackson Library renovation when much of the physical circulating collection will be inaccessible, borrowing privileges for Community Borrowers who join or renew in 2024 will be extended through December 10, 2027. To obtain or renew a Community Borrower account follow these steps:
- 1. Submit an online Patron Registration Form. Wait for a response from checkout@uncg.edu before proceeding to step 2.
- 2. Come to the Check Out Desk in Jackson Library, show us a valid state or federally issued photo ID, make your payment with a Visa or Mastercard using our secure payment portal, then show us confirmation of payment. Your borrowing account will be created while you wait. Program participation begins on the day payment is made.
For further information contact the Jackson Library Checkout Desk at checkout@uncg.edu or 336.334.5304.
