ROI Internship and Capstone Experiences
The Research, Outreach, and Instruction Department (ROI) at UNCG employs LIS students in a paid position as reference desk assistants, which is a part of the ROI Internship Program. If you have questions, please contact the reference desk manager and intern coordinator, Nick McCollister, at n_mccoll@uncg.edu.
Why apply for an internship?
- Gain professional reference experience in a supportive setting.
- Receive training from UNCG librarians before and during your internship experience.
- Possibly get experience with digital reference, collection development, and library instruction (depending on your interests and work schedule.)
- Improve your resume and list of references (students must work at least 2 semesters for a reference).
- Get paid!
Requirements
- LIS620: Information Sources and Services (or taking this class during the first semester of your proposed internship);
- Working a minimum of 6 hours a week;
- Committing to at least two semesters of work;
- Attending the weekly, hour-long training sessions;
- An outgoing service attitude;
- Solid technology skills;
- Intellectual curiosity.
When possible, ROI librarians also work with UNCG MLIS students who are completing Field Experiences for the LIS Capstone course. If you are interested in a field experience focused on research, outreach, or instruction, please contact Jenny Dale at jedale2@uncg.edu.
