Spartan Statue

A 1,500-pound, 14 foot statue of a Spartan, the university's mascot, was installed in the plaza between the softball and soccer stadiums. The statue was a gift from Irwin "Ike" Belk, and sculpted by Hanna and Jodi Hollnagel-Jubran.

The Administration and the Board of Trustees held an open forum on the future of the quadrangle, after a proposed demolition of the quad dormitories sparked a heated debate in the campus community.

An endowed professorship was named for JoAnne Smart and Bettye Ann Davis who were the first African-American students to enroll at the College in 1956.

An anonymous donor gave $6 million to UNCG - the largest gift in its history - $5 million to be used for student aid and $1 million to create distinguished professorships.
