Women's Ways of Knowing: The Development of Self, Voice, and Mind by Belenky, Clinchy, Goldberger & Tarule
"The book I have chosen is Women's Ways of Knowing: The Development of Self, Voice and Mind by Belenky, Clinchy, Goldberger & Tarule. I first read this book in my masters in nursing program, and for the first time I developed an acute awareness that women learn very differently from men. The book gave value to my own beliefs that women have "intuitive" and "innate" ways of knowing. I found this book very empowering to me as a woman, and reading it encouraged me to pursue a PhD in nursing. As a faculty member in the School of Nursing, this book has continued to influence me by providing me with a respect for how women learn, and also for the need to empower women to expand their consciousness to become more aware of the world they live in."
