Take Me With You by Carlos Frías
The book is Mr. Frías' memoir of not only a visit to his parent's birthplace, Cuba, but also of his journey on what it means to be the son of immigrants. As the son of immigrants myself, one of which was born in Cuba, it was inspiring for me to read Mr. Frías' words; to read of the struggles and triumphs of his family as the sacrificed to make a better life for themselves and their son. It also was important for me to contemplate not only how much my parents' identity as immigrants means to me, but how much their countries of origin play a role in the person I am today. This book not only helped me connect with my past; it also helped me gain a better feeling for what I can do in my present and future.
