As a new doctoral student, Lisa Delpit’s, Other People’s Children: Cultural Conflict in the Classroom, raised my awareness of the complexities of cultural challenges faced by children and young adults in our education system. Her description of the "silenced dialogue" continues to inspire me to go beyond my comfort zone and through the cultural curtain to create changes that result in greater understanding among diverse learners.
