Selected Stories Andre Dubus

Dubus's tender empathy for his characters--his eerie understanding of their inner lives, even when writing outside his race or gender--was an inspiration to me when I was a graduate student, and these stories inspire me still. In particular, I return to Dubus when I need a lesson on how to write great exposition, exposition that psychologically deepens the story without sacrificing any tension.
