As an educator, I would like to believe that schooling can provide opportunities for success to children and adolescents from all backgrounds; as a researcher in the area of economics of education, I know that there are many ways in which the education system exacerbates existing socioeconomic disparities. Whither Opportunity? is an invaluable asset when it comes to understanding the ways in which parental resources are related to children’s educational outcomes, and this knowledge can help researchers, educators, and policy makers find ways to design an education system that provides all children and young adults with room for growth.
