Thinking Through Craft
by
Glenn Adamson
Adamson's theoretical writings and case studies contextualize the ways in which visual material culture has been subdivided into categories, particularly those of "art" and "craft." He has written extensively on the ways in which the industrial revolution alienated artisanal labor and stigmatized the concept of craft. As a scholar who works on histories of ceramics, I am interested in his reframing of craft as a positive, useful categorization in a range of historical contexts.
