- Description: The earliest surviving photo of faculty members at the Normal School, seated on the steps of Main Building (now Foust). Listed below are the names of the faculty members, followed by the institution where they received their degree and the subject they taught at the School.
- First Row: Viola Boddie, Peabody Normal College, Latin; Florence Stone, French.
- Second Row: Edith A. McIntyre, New York College for the Training of Teachers, Domestic Science; Mary Petty, Wellesley College, Chemistry and Physics; Anna M. Gove, Woman's Medical College, Physiology and Hygiene; Charles Duncan McIver, University of North Carolina, Pedagogics and Civics; Lucy H. Robertson, Chowan Baptist Institute, History and Reading.
- Third Row: Edward J. Forney, Bursar; Maude Broadaway, State Normal and Industrial School, Physical Culture; James Yadkin Joyner, University of North Carolina, English Literature and Methods of Teaching Arithmetic; Melville Fort, Mississippi Industrial Institute and College, Industrial Art; Philander Priestly Claxton, University of Tennessee, Pedagogics and German.
- Fourth Row: Sue May Kirkland, Nash and Kollock's School; Dixie Lee Bryant, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Geology, Biology, and Physical Geography; Gertrude Mendenhall, Wellesley College, Mathematics.
- It is noted on the photograph that Clarence R. Brown (Vocal Music) was not present for this photograph. Also, Miriam Bitting, the original campus physician, was replaced by Dr. Gove in the second year of the school. While the school employed other staff members and officers, they were not included in this photograph for unknown reasons.
