Barbara Parrish was appointed Alumnae Secretary, a position which she held until 1989.

The College awarded an honorary degree to Senator Margaret Chase Smith of Maine.

WUNC-TV was established and began producing programs on each of the three campuses of the Consolidated University. It was the first university-sponsored television network in the country.
